A Good MC usually enjoys being in the limelight, is confident, witty and charming and is able to work the room.


These days you can make your speeches any order you like and miss out bits you dont want. Below are two formats to help you decide.

Traditional Speech and Toast Format

  • The Master Of Ceremonies (MC) introduces himself and welcomes everyone to the Reception

  • Grace

  • Entree is served

  • The MC proposes The Royal Toast (a toast to the Queen which is very rarely practised these days)

  • Main Course is served

  • Desert and coffee is brought out

  • The MC introduces the person who will propose a toast to the Bride and Groom

  • MC introduces the Groom

  • The Groom's Speech 

  • His Toast to the Bridesmaids

  • MC introduces the Best Man

  • The Best Man's Speech

  • His Toast to the Mother and Father of the Bride

  • MC introduces the Father of the Bride

  • Father of the Bride's Speech

  • His Toast to the Mother and Father of the Groom

  • MC introduces the Best Man again

  • The Best Man reads the lettergrams, faxes, emails, cards, messages etc

  • MC thanks everyone who helped make the Reception a success
